About Eastview Christian Sportsmen (ECS):

ECS is a special interest group that began as an outgrowth of the Men’s Ministry of Eastview Christian Church.  It is composed of men and their families that share the common passion of the great outdoors through activities such as hunting, fishing, sport shooting, archery, camping, canoeing, etc.  It's purpose is to provide opportunities for men and their families to enjoy outdoor activities with other sportsmen and connect with individuals no matter where one stands in his relationship with Jesus Christ and grow in one's spiritual walk through these connections.  Our mission: To encourage and empower sportsmen to discover and develop a deep passion for Jesus Christ in the context of the outdoor adventure.  We are about enjoying God's Creation.

Eastview Christian Sportsmen held its first event in April 2006.  Since then we have hosted over 25 events in that one year.  In 2007 we have 26 events planned with more being planned all the time.  Events however range in size from the 4 and 5 person sporting clays shoot or duck hunt to the larger Sportsmen’s Banquet type of events.

In one year we've had over 350 sportsmen sign up for the “Sportsmen’s Email Network” and subscribe to our monthly newsletter.  These 350 individuals represent over 50 churches.

Smaller churches and rural churches are encouraged to use the Sportsmen’s ministry events as their events for their own men’s ministry events.

Below is a summary of our activities and event types:

Hunting & Fishing
Organized hunts and fishing trips, locally, regionally and nationally.  South Dakota pheasant hunts, Rocky mountain elk hunts, Southern Illinois Duck hunts, Lake Michigan Salmon fishing.  Just to name a few.  Local access & hunt club activities.

Activities & Events

Many activities and special events.  There is our annual Sportsmen’s Day which is fun for the

whole family and includes fishing, sporting clays, rim fire target, tomahawk throw and a big barbeque.  There will be archery outings, sporting clay outings, trips to ranges for sighting in your rifles and shotguns.    Trips to Expos and famous sporting goods outlets.

 Chapter Meetings

These gatherings are a popular time to get together and have a cookout, special speakers, topical outdoor demonstrations & clinics, plus what would a gathering of sportsmen be without storytelling.  Testimonies of high adventure and where our lives have have been with and without Jesus.  There are videos of adventure and the not so venturous.  An evening for the whole family.

Short Term Missions Trips & Service Trips

There will be opportunities to serve on short term missions trips that include times for high adventure.  Also included will be volunteer trips to help set up (opening and closing) a Canadian Boy Scout camp for the local troops

 Workshops & Clinics

Hunter safety certification courses, gun and fishing safety clinics, hand loading, bird calling and predator calling clinics.   Surviving in the wilderness, on becoming an outdoor family, and a variety of other workshops and clinics.

Kids & Special Needs

Lots of activities and programs for the kids.  There will be fishing education programs and outings.  Plenty of fishing rod/reels for every child.  Hunter certification courses for the new hunter, how to shoot a shotgun or small caliber rifle, or archery, all available to the children.  Includes special events for single parents and their children and for the physically challenged.

Programs

  • Hunters and non-hunters alike join forces to feed the hungry in a program called “First Fruits Harvest”.  Our chapter has teamed up with Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) in this program.  Hunters donate a portion of the deer harvest each season and take a participating meat locker where the meat is processed and distributed to food pantries around the area including Eastviews.  Non-hunters help by donating money to pay for the processing.  In 2006 almost 12,000 pounds of venison was donated and distributed to the food pantries in Central Illinois for further distribution to the needy.
  • Fishing poles are available to be checked out on loan from ECS.  We have over 110 fishing poles to be used by individuals that otherwise would not be able to enjoy fishing.
  • Fishing education is provided to any type of group from the children to senior citizens.  ECS has a group fishing permit that allows us to take groups fishing without the need for everyone to have a license.  God cares and so do we.
  • Wing shooting clinics, hunting & safety certification course, junior and ladies shotgun clinics are conducted frequently.

Sportsmen’s Email Network & Newsletter

The Sportsmen Email Network gets men connected.  A monthly newsletter lets men know what’s happening, and through events gets them connected to individuals with like interests that already are in the know.  Churches are getting connecting to other churches
